VISTA Project Goal

You’ll build and improve marketing campaigns and communication systems for Habitat for Humanity in the Chippewa Valley. Creating sustainable outreach strategies will increase awareness and support for Habitat’s mission to build and repair homes in local communities.

Project Objectives

MARKETING – Develop a marketing and communications strategy to increase community support and engagement with Habitat’s work and mission.

  • Assess the organization’s current communication efforts. Research best practices for: social media, email marketing, website content, print materials, fundraising communications, and radio/TV outreach.

  • Based on data gathered, work with the executive director to create an actionable marketing plan (based on resources, staff time, etc).

  • Develop metrics and tools for tracking performance.

  • Create marketing campaigns based on the plan, referring to Habitat brand guidelines when designing materials. When possible, create reusable templates, using platforms such as Canva to build a library of digital and print pieces.

HOMEOWNER COMMUNICATIONS – Improve homeowner services communication to better support partner families through the home-buying process.

  • Review past/current communications with homeowners. Identify areas for improvement as well as strengths. Gather feedback from homeowners, staff, and other stakeholders (such as family services committee members).

  • Research best practices for homeowner communications, connecting with other Habitat for Humanity affiliates and taking advantage of any resources on the myhabitat platform.

  • Based on research, develop a homeowner communications plan. This may include newsletter, emails, phone calls, texts, etc.

  • Implement plan. Track performance and make adjustments as necessary. Identify (And train) who will be responsible for homeowner communications once the VISTA project has ended.

Chippewa Valley Habitat for Humanity started serving families through new home construction in 1990. Since then, they have expanded to include home repairs as well. They have built over 40 homes in the Chippewa Valley and have repaired dozens others.
