What is AmeriCorps VISTA?

"Volunteers In Service To America” began in 1965 as the domestic version of the Peace Corps. Now part of the larger AmeriCorps program of national service, the VISTA Program fights poverty by focusing on sustainability and building the capacity of the non­profits they serve.

AmeriCorps VISTA members help others while gaining valuable skills for their career. HFH WI VISTA members commit to a year of service at a Habitat affiliate or partner nonprofit in Wisconsin. With passion, commitment, and hard work our VISTA members help affiliates bring individuals and communities out of poverty.

Our AmeriCorps VISTA program is now in its fourteenth year, and we’re expanding our program beyond Habitat for Humanity affiliates to partner with other Wisconsin nonprofits focused on housing.

Full-Year VISTA Positions | Starting June 2026

Positions are being posted as they become available. Recruiting happens on a rolling basis, so apply today!

In 2026, we plan to have VISTA opportunities available in Appleton, Baraboo, Fond du Lac, Grafton, Green Bay, Madison, Oshkosh, Rhinelander, and Sheboygan - and hope to add more locations. Project areas include community outreach, volunteer program development, fundraising, home repair program development, and more.


Appleton - Community Outreach & Engagement with HFH Greater Fox Cities

Develop a community-informed outreach strategy by identifying barriers to participation - for volunteers and program applicants - and building relationships with underrepresented groups in the community. More Info | Apply Now!


Fond du Lac - Resource Development with HFH Fond du Lac

Recruit volunteers and raise funds to build a home. Develop systems to support Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to help more families achieve affordable homeownership in Fond du Lac County. More Info | Apply now!


Grafton - Home Preservation Program Development with HFH Ozaukee County

Create a home preservation program to assist lower income homeowners complete needed home repairs, revising fundraising and volunteer recruitment strategies that will enable Habitat for Humanity to help more families in Ozaukee County More Info | Apply Now!


Madison - Fund Development with HFH of Dane County

Improve fundraising strategies, with a focus on grants and individual donors, to help Habitat for Humanity respond to the ongoing need for affordable homeownership opportunities and home repair assistance in Dane County. More Info | Apply Now!


Madison - Resident Engagement with Movin’ Out

Develop events and activities for residents of Movin’ Out’s accessible, inclusive rental housing. Expand capacity to support individuals with disabilities while gaining new skills and experience. More Info | Apply Now!


Oshkosh - ReStore Makeover with HFH of Oshkosh

Develop and implement strategies to improve ReStore operations, resulting in a better experience for shoppers and more funds raised to build homes in the Oshkosh area. | More info coming soon.

Sheboygan - Resource Development with HFH Lakeside

Benefits for AmeriCorps Members Serving with HFH WI

View Opportunties

Benefits for Full Year AmeriCorps Members serving with the HFH WI VISTA Program

  • Modest living allowance ( about $957/bi-weekly)

  • Relocation assistance of $750 + $0.40/mile (if qualified)

  • Education award of $7,395 OR a $1,800 end-of-service cash stipend upon completion of a full year of service (summer associates receive a prorated education award or end-of-service stipend)

  • Student loan deferment or forbearance for qualified loans

  • Student loan interest accrual paid for qualified loans

  • AmeriCorps VISTA Healthcare Allowance or Health Benefit Plan

  • Childcare assistance (if qualified)

  • One year of noncompetitive status for federal government jobs

  • Training and leadership development opportunities

  • Full-time service defined as 30 hours/week

  • Many (but not all) positions are hybrid and/or flexible schedule

  • Many (but not all) positions include an additional housing stipend
