Training: The "Her Story" Project

Jon Newberry, Director of Digital Campaigns and Caitlin Kennan, Associate Director of Storytelling and Brand for Habitat for Humanity International will lend their considerable expertise to sessions on effective storytelling and online messaging. We’ll also be joined by Michael Hyacinthe from Veterans Build and Lisa Nickerson from the Women Build program to help us launch our new Her Story project.

We strongly encourage all affiliates who have submitted nominees for the Her Story project, and anyone interested in learning more about the program or using and promoting stories to help bring attention to their mission.

The training recording is now available! (And remember to submit your Her Story nominee.)

About Her Story

As you know, HFH Wisconsin has been working with Wisconsin affiliates to develop She Served, a first-in-the-nation program to honor women veterans at builds throughout the state. Unfortunately, COVID-19 concerns forced us to postpone the project for this year, but in order not to lose momentum our She Served committee has created a special storytelling project, called Her Story, to recognize essential workers who have served our communities during this health crisis.

We are calling on all the affiliates to nominate a volunteer, partner family member, staff member or corporate partner who has served her country in the military or her community as first responder, medical personnel, grocery clerk, bus driver, or other frontline essential worker. We’ll create web pages with their photos and stories, and, thanks to a grant from HFHI, we will provide gifts for you to honor them locally, however you see fit.

Nominate your affiliate’s honoree(s) here, and we’ll get things started.

We’ve already received nominations from a number of affiliates, and we can’t wait for you to hear their nominees’ inspiring stories. Please join us on August 6th and learn more about creating impactful stories for this project and for your own programs and events, and don’t forget to nominate your own Her Story honoree!
