Framing on the build site.
VISTA Project Goal
You’ll develop a Home Repairs program and launch Green Team landscaping projects. In addition you’ll do community outreach to make sure everyone knows about Habitat for Humanity and its new programs in northern Wisconsin!
Project Objectives
HOME REPAIR PROGRAM – Expand the affiliate’s capacity to complete home repairs in partnership with low income homeowners.
Review affiliate’s history with home repairs/existing program. Identify strengths and weaknesses. Research local needs and best practices.
Develop/update processes and procedures of the home repair program, from application to finished project. Create/identify tools for tracking project status (spreadsheets, project management software, etc).
Implement home repair program. Track progress. Make adjustments/improvements as needed.
Document all processes and procedures and collect all documents. Identify who will be responsible for the program once the VISTA’s term is complete.
GREEN TEAM – Develop a program and plan related events/activities to assist with landscaping around Habitat houses, such as planting grass and solicit donations of a tree or shrub for each home. This removes the cost burden from the homeowner and helps combat NIMYISM by increasing the home's "curb appeal".
Review Green Team development progress to date. Identify next steps.
Connect with Master Gardeners about planting grass and one (donated) shrub or tree at each location.
Plan and implement the Green Team program, including outreach to schedule projects, recruiting volunteers, etc.
Evaluate project success. Make adjustments/suggestion improvements for future events. Create Green Team program manual and identify who will be responsible for the program once the VISTA’s term is complete.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH – Conduct outreach to local communities to increase awareness about Habitat for Humanity, connecting with homeowners while also recruiting volunteers and building support for Habitat’s work and mission.
Review Habitat for Humanity’s history in the community. Identify strengths and weaknesses with their current outreach/marketing strategies. Research best practices.
Implement plan – tabling at events, marketing/visibility at ReStore, connecting with potential partners. Follow up leads for volunteers, donors, and home repair prospects.
Evaluate ROI of various strategies. Suggest improvements. Document processes and procedures, collect all documents and materials, and identify who will be responsible for the program once the VISTA’s term has ended.
