VISTA Project Goal

You will cultivate a welcoming volunteer environment, providing support and training to retain volunteers and grow the program, enabling Habitat for Humanity of Oshkosh to build homes for local families and individuals.

Project Objectives

VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT – Increase Habitat’s pool of volunteers, with a focus on the build site. Coordinate with ReStore VISTA to aid their volunteer recruitment efforts.

1. Review current volunteer program and recruitment efforts, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.

2. Research best practices for volunteer recruitment, including digital and in-person strategies, potential partnerships, community opportunities, and tools to facilitate recruitment.

3. Develop and implement volunteer recruitment plan, with specific strategies for recruiting Core Volunteers. Create or update materials as needed. Respond to volunteer inquiries. Assist volunteers with creation of volunteer profiles and provide support as needed for scheduling.

4. Gather and organize materials and documents. Update Volunteer Program Manual. Identify who will be responsible for recruitment after the VISTA project has ended.

VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT – Foster a positive volunteer experience, increasing volunteer retention and community support for Habitat’s work and mission. Coordinate efforts with ReStore VISTA when applicable.

1. Review current volunteer training and support, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. Gather feedback from staff, volunteers, home buyers, etc.

2. Research best strategies for volunteer management, including: training curriculum (requirements and opportunities), volunteer appreciation, and volunteer data tracking

3. Develop an enhanced volunteer management plan, with a special focus on creating a Core Volunteer definition and guidelines, and implement improvements. Manage current volunteers and scheduling needs. Assess the program improvements/additions, and make changes as needed.

4. Gather materials and documents and update Volunteer Program Manual. Identify who will be responsible for volunteer management once the VISTA project has ended.
